| | Alrighty so currently I have a 17" Crosby saddle, about 2.5 years old and I bought it new. I love it to death, mostly because it's basically slick leather and really helped my leg. It fits Flicka and Duncan fine, and did fit Lexus alright too, up until now. Lex was too skinny when we got him and now that's he's really gained weight and filled out all over, he's starting to get saddle sores, and I'm also thinking he wasn't really comfortable with my saddle that much in the first place since he bucked a lot, and a lot of behavioral issues under saddle are from a misfitting saddle. So I'm planning on saving up some money to buy a new saddle just to use on him, and hopefully my dad will pitch in, possibly as an early birthday/christmas present (my bdays in November). I kinda want a new one anyway for Lexus, because since my saddle is so slick, it doesn't help your equitation that much. I mean it's gotten me better, but you can only really tell when I'm in any other saddle. My leg gets much more solid, because other saddles aren't slipperly like mine. Haha seriously, like no one can ride in my saddle except me because I'm used to it. xD So since I may pursue equitation, possibly some jumpers with Lexus, I want a better saddle anyway. Plus my current saddle's flaps are a bit too short for my leg. So now that I'm finished rambling, does anyone know of any good saddles that would fit my recently filled out TB (but still slight built- with high withers) and be suitable for eq./jumpers? Thanks!

| If you can, the best thing to do is get an appointment with a pro saddle fitter ... it is expensive but so worth it. I did that to find a dressage saddle and I love my saddle and so does my beast.
What is the tree on your Crosby? Sorry...you might have posted that and I missed it. I do not have experience with them...so I don't know if they fit bigger or smaller. You are probably looking for a medium/medium wide fit though. Saddles I suggest you looking into that have fit TB's I ride are Pessoa, M.Toulouse, PJ, Circuit, and County. All are great saddles that all fit the average eventer/jumper TB.
And as far as your saddle slickness...do you oil it? That might help. Also, if you slab some Saddle Tight on it you'll have much more stickability (might as well improve your situation while you're saddle hunting).

Good luck! :) Oh thanks. I might try to do that. But it's kinda hard to get extra cash right now, since we have four horses and one parent to pay all the bills. Kinda sucks. I really wanted to find the exact fit though soo yeah. And I really don't know. Is there any way I can measure it to find out? And yes, I do oil is occassionally. Not after every ride, but I'd say once every couple months, maybe a bit more often than that. I should more often but I don't...xD And alright, I'll try that! My saddle doesn't have knee rolls or anything, it's really small and just, there. One of my old problems what that I always lost my stirrups, but then we replaced my stirrups and the filler things (mine had no grip, they were basically flat rubber) because they were so old, and it's helped. | From pictures I have seen of your saddle there's a couple people at my barn that have one or one like it. Oil really helps the leather soften and become more grippy. I am a huge fan of Effax Leatherbalsam. If you do want to get a new saddle though you are just going to have to experiment with saddle fit. Do you have any tack shops near you? If they carry used saddles they should let you take it home and try it. It also might be a good idea to have your trainer or knowledgable friend help you with saddle fit.

I'm keeping my current saddle for two of my horses, but I need to get a new one for Lexus since it doesn't fit him anymore. So I'll have two. I have two tack shops around, one carries mostly schooling equipment, show or schooling clothes, and all that, not really saddles. But I do have a Dover about 40 minutes away. They don't have used saddles to try, but do you think I could do one of those "Test Rides" that they advertise in the catalog? I unfortunately don't have a trainer, and none of my horsie friends are really knowedgable enough, unfortunately. Hopefully the Dover people will be able to help me find a saddle that should work with his type, and I can just see which one I like best.

| You could try the test ride. It sounds like a great deal. I know Crosby carries saddles with spring trees, so they automatically adjust to your horse's back. You still need to know if your horse is a medium, narrow, medium narrow, ect. but it gives you some leanience. I haven't talked to a saddle fitter about the effects on the horse's back, but a woman at my barn has one that she used on this hunter with a super sensitive back for 6 years and he was fine.

| | Ok, yeah I'm pretty sure Lexus will probably be a medium tree. I've heard a lot of OTTB with high withers, and that kinda have filled out do well with it. But I'll make sure. I'm interested in the M. toulouse's. I'll just have to check later and see if Dover has them. But I reallyyy need something decently afforable. Apparently they're pretty good quality for their price though.

| I really like Tolouses and the price is great. The only thing you would have to worry about would be wither coverage.
