Just recently, the Parelli corporation has done some weird new things (aka the Patterns. Don't worry about them right now) but ignore the website for now and listen to me! Haha. I'm a Level 2/3 student and I've been through a lot, and I teach lessons now, so I know exactly how to help beginners start :)

First you really want to buy the new Level 1 program. Try eBay. But be sure you buy a kit with EVERYTHING in it because everything is quite important.

These are the two cheapest complete New Level 1 kits, so try to get one of them.

You don't need all the logo equipment but they are pretty helpful. If you can afford it, get the real stuff and new. If you can't, buy some used and buy some quality knock-offs. What you need right now is a 12 ft line, halter, carrot stick, and savvy string. I know a place to get the halter, line, and string if you can't buy them new, but I haven't found a good knock-off carrot stick yet, so get a used one.

It'd also be helpful to get a copy of Natural Horse-Man-Ship by Pat Parelli, from Western Horseman, to just get a general overview of the concepts of PNH. And take a look at this Horsenality Chart to help understand your horse better: http://www.parelli.com/content.faces?groupType=HORSENALITY

As far as Levels, there are ten of them, but only the first four are available for home study at the moment. A simple breakdown of all of them...Level 1 = Safety, Level 2 = Confidence, Level 3 = Refinement, Level 4 = Specialization, Level 5, 6, 7 = Unity, Level 8, 9 = True Unity and Level 10 = Master. Pat Parelli is Level 9 and Linda is Level 6, just to give you an idea of where they are.

If you have any questions or anything, don't be afraid of message me :D

Umm.. okay I'm not a pro but what I have done with the horses I ride works really well, I haven't really bought anything to help me (I really don't care about the levels) I just try to get a better relationship with the horse and have them trusting you, but if you google the seven games you can use those and make sure you do the friendly game first though I gave the address to a website that tells you how to do the games.  http://www.wikihow.com/Do-the-7-Games-of-Parelli. also I really cool video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcXcbXA9oVk. hope I helped

Just a quick warning before you star Parelli:

Parelli WILL NOT: Make your horse like you more for using it instead of another training, make your horse perform better under saddle, will not make your horse better than someone who didn't use Parelli.

Parelli May: Cause your horse to disrespect you, become confused of what your asking of him/her because there is nothing Natural about Parelli for the horse, make your horse feel like he/she can do whatever they want and walk all over you.

Thats is not true and tottaly uncalled for. Parelli does work. Trust me. Annie has became so much beter and has so many other horses. In no way have any of the horses that I know (alot) walk all over you, try it before you judge. She asked for how to start not oh this is what i think is bad about parelli.

Alright back to the questions. There are four parelli levels you can by. You by them in the parelli paterns. The rest you go to the parelli centers to learn.

Some great things to do are the seven games, undemanding time ect. Pm if you want to know more. I love to help.

im sorry but that was uncalled for.

Parelli DOES work and CAN work you have to use it properly for it to be effective. now i have NOTHING against Parelli it is a every effective way of teaching people to respect their horses and get the horses to resect them. It works great! Now me personally have pretty much my own training method that is sort of a combination of Parelli games, Clinton Anderson tecniques, and my own techniques. Its all from things i've seen and know work and from my head. Now if you do not have lots of experience in horses and trainingthen yes, Parelli is a great way to get in touch and become a pair with your horse.

Sorry just had to state that.

Good luck by the way!

My god, that is so full of LOL. When I wasn't using PNH with my mare...she was unstoppable. Even in martingale, draw reins, and twisted wire pelham. And now I can ride her bareback and birdleless....

Disrespectful and confused my buttock...
