Hi, I was wondering if it is absolutley necessary to wear breeches while riding with an English saddle or if it really doesn't matter?

Only those who risk going too far, can possibly find, how far they can go.

kind of depends on the saddle. if you have a super nice quality saddle, wearing jeans could dull and tear the leather. but usually it's fine. i've never found it comfortable to wear jeans while in an English saddle and i feel like you just slide around everywhere but haven't worn them in forever either. but i know a lot of people who ride in jeans and chaps and never have a problem.

I usually wear breeches because they're the most comfortable for me, but sometimes I wear jeggings with half chaps and they work well. I just wouldn't wear any type of jeans without half chaps.

My first couple years if riding, I wore jeans and never really had a problem with it. You should definitely wear half chaps with them though. I didn't, and I got some crazy bruises.

doesn't really matter. I usually just wear jeans unless I'm feeling like dressing up a little bit, which is rare, since I don't show.

Thanks for the advice!!! I will probably wear jeans but when and if I can get a saddle, I'll try to buy some breeches :)

I wear both. I have never gotten rubs, nor killed a saddle, nor had the earth fall out from under me on occasions of wearing jeans instead of breeches.
