soo i hate pleasure classes because i never have learnt exactly what a judge is looking for soooo i never place  i give my pony more rein i keep in more of a relaxed pace and i relax a little more  at the canter (meaning like half seat a little more)  soo what are your english pleasure tips

(i know its not about winning but seriously have you never been a little diappointed when you dont win the blue)

I ride every gait like I imagine I would in a dressage test. I even read dressage books and read the "what judges look for in dressage classes" stuff to help me. That helps me keep gaits pure, my horse "on the bit", etc. Also, I allow my post to be a little higher and my hands slightly busier if need be, but not much. I know I really shouldn't, but I do. HOpe this helps!

EDIT: Also, it really help a lot if your horse naturally has a super pretty way of going. I know that's obvious, but... yeah.

If it's just a smaller show then don't stress out. Ask your horse to stretch down a little and have a light contact on the bit. Her head should be about parallel with her withers and she should be moving off her back end. You want your horses back to be moving and loose beneath you. You literally want her to "swing" with her back. You'll be able to feel the difference between when she's tight backed and when she drops her head, lifts her back up and starts to loosen up. Make sure her gaits are forward and engaged and she's tracking up but not running away.

As for you just sit quiet and pretty. Keep everything still, post quietly, and sit the canter. The judge wants to see a nicely turned out pair who look good together. The goal, especially at your level, is just to look relaxed and work well with your horse.

Smile, and relax; look like you're having the time of your life, even if your horse misbehaves a little. A judge won't place if you look pissed off and. xD

Pleasure is both about the horses manners, and the judge looking in the ring and saying, "Man, I'd love to ride that horse."

I (I am pretty sure everyone else is supposed to too) am supposed to ride in lessons the best I can. So if you ride the best you can in lessons, pretend like you are not at a show, but in a lesson; relax.

this season I'll be riding my friend's horse in the $100 pleasure stake. It helps that he's a GORGEOUS mover and is ever nicer if you put him in a frame. xD
eeeeeeeeeep.
I spoke to one judge about the pleasure classes. She likes to see perked ears and a happy horse moving willingly and nicely. Obedient, in a lower headset(not below the withers).

I know in hunters you want a little half seat so your doing it right there your horse should be moving out and in a little head set. You should be smiling like you are happy and having fun!
Hope i helped! good luck:)

I always smile. I do this because I have been taught that Pleasure classes are suppost to show your horse is a pleasure to ride. I relly think this helps because my horse getts energy when he rides with other horses and I have a tight rein and he is a little faster and I dont know if smiling helps but thats how I ride in all my classes and do really well alot.

You should have a loose rein in a pleasure class, and your horse shouldn't be going terribly fast.

I dont do many group lessons so my horse getts energy and I always have a tight rein and he is always a little fast. I have always been taught that pleasure is the horse is a pleasure to ride so this was one of the things I have always done and do veryy well with.
