Hey!

I am considering leasing/buying a horse soon, so I wanted some saddle advice before I go out to purchase one.
A little about what I plan to do - I am a Hunter/Jumper, who has been jumping for 5 months, but I will for a lot longer. I want to show next summer (planning to this summer, but fractured my arm, so I'd have a lot of work to do to get to that point), and I am starting in Hunter. I want to eventually move into Show-Jumping to try it out, but I'm currently sticking to Hunter.

Okay..so here are some saddles I saw that I thought looked nice. Any advice would be much appreciated!

-Mondega Amara Pro Close Contact
-Thorowgood T6 Jump Saddle
-Circuit Elite Close Contact Saddle

That's it for the moment, I will edit if I see other saddles that look nice.

Thank you!

You should definitely lease/buy before you buy the saddle, in case the horse has some wacky withers or back or something. Also, if it's a lease, I wouldn't pay more than five hundred or so for a good quality used saddle, and that's only if the horse is relatively normal and the saddle would fit most other horses too.
What's your price range?

Yes, I won't be getting a saddle until one of those happens (which it might not). I was just looking for fun in case something popped up, so I'd know of a good brand to try.

No more than $1000. I'm saving up in case it comes along. I might also buy a used good brand, I was just wondering if people liked the saddles themselves.

I've never used either. Remember to keep a look out for good used saddles! My favourite saddle ever is a 20 year old Kieffer xD. Age doesn't always mean much in tack.

Okay thanks! Last time I went to the tack shop I looked around, and most of the saddles looked like they were falling apart, so maybe they'll have some better ones.

Ok I just read about this in last months edition of horse illistrated. for hunters you should have the kind of bumper thing on the leg flaps for the saddle since youll be galloping and going over jumps a lot. you also can get the magazine to read the whole thing for yourself.

YES. I've got a 20 yr old cc, a 27 year old dressage saddle and I think my cc/monoflap fancy thang is like 30 O.O

If you maintain your tack, it'll last you and most nice brands have a good resale value.

Yep, used tack rocks. If your local tack shop doesn't have much in the way of used saddles, you could try this site:
http://www.stcroixsaddlery.com/Default.asp?Redirected=Y
what I really like about them is you can take any of the new or used saddles on trial. Another brand that's pretty popular right now that is good quality, or so I hear, is Circuit. It's a dover exclusive brand and all except one of their models is under $1000. Oh, and you can usually get the elite model on sale for $699 with a free bridle if you can wait until dover's end of summer sale. :]

If dovers tack brands are half as good as their breeches, their saddles must be fab. Never tried one though xD.

Okay, so I've looked up the Circuit Elite, and I'm in love with it.

From some of the reviews the upsides of the saddle are:

-Great quality for price
-Easy to break in leather
-Just enough contact
-Can be used in schooling, trails, flat, showing, jumping...
-Nice look
-Comfortable
-Fits many different shapes of horses/ponies

Downsides:

-The saddle comes and has a red-orange tint to it. You have to oil it a few times to get a nice colour.
-It's hard to find quality leathers that match the colour of the saddle, as their brand of leathers isn't great.
-The leathers are hard to put in, but once in, they are secure.

Overall, I love it from what I've seen in these reviews!

It sounds nice and an all around saddle that has good contact for jumping but can also be used for flat. Which is great, as currently I do more flat than jumping, but I will eventually move into longer jumping, and showing.

What do you think of this brand?

I rode my trainers for a few months beofre getting my own circuit CC and I loved hers. It was not an orangy color, it was acutally a pretty chesnuttyish color. I don't really know what leathers she has but I have circuit leather on my saddle that are amazing. PM jumpermorgan too, she owns an Elite and can tell you more about it.

Thank you very much! I'm glad that it works well for you, maybe *crosses fingers* I'll get to try it.
