Ok, so when I went to ride on sun. the pony would not stand still for me to get on.
tried backing him up like it said to do in the magizine, but then when I tried to get on he walked back. so I walked him forward and tried to get on and he walked forward.

Don't expect him to get better after just a couple tries. He needs consistent work. If he walks forward, make him back. If he goes backward, give him a boot in the belly. If he starts moving while you're still swinging your leg over, try as hard as you can not to get off, since that would be rewarding the horse. Just keep your left rein shorter than your right one so there's nowhere to go but in a circle if he starts walking off.

I agree.

-But-

Before you assume it is his fault, make sure that you're actually shortening your reins before you get on. If you aren't keeping your reins at an appropriate length when mounting, the horse will walk off, due to rider error. So please, before you punish him for misbehaving, be sure that it is indeed him that is making the error, not you.

Agreed. I got really frustrated with Axel not standing still, until I realized that every time I put my foot in the stirrup my toe hit his side, which he understands as a cue to walk forward. Of course now I have this nasty problem where he does it automatically and I'm still in the process of fixing that, so make sire it's not something you're doing that's causing it.

What everyone else said. Plus, if he starts walking off before you ask him to when your but is actually in the saddle, back him up and make him stand in the spot where you got on until you ask him to move forward.
