How can I encourage Lovebug to hold her head lower in western pleasure lessons. I have a running martingale and don't want to try any other tack such as running reins. How can I encourage her to hold her head lower? Her headsets not terrible just a little higher at times then I want. It very well may be my fault.

You may try using your spurs to get under her and get her to round her back and lower her head... but you might already do that. Can't think of much else (sorry!) hope this helped!

I may be wrong, but this does not sound like the proper use of spurs to me. You do not need spurs to get a horse to round, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the OP is a relatively new rider, and if you do not have a very solid leg and your toes stick out, spurs are the worst thing to use. If she wants to get the horse round, there are several topics on how to properly as a horse to round, and I do not belive that using spurs is a good idea in this situation.

oop. my bad. I have short legs and a tall horse, so that's how my trainer has me use spurs. (by no means do I use them harshly/abusively, I use them sparingly) Thanks for correcting me :) I totally agree with what you said. I'm being really stupid right now.... ughhh...

Don't worry about it, haha. I just wanted to make sure that she didn't jump right to spurs when she probably doesn't need them =]

You can practice 20 meter circles and get her to flex to the inside....eventually she'll probably except the bit and give in......I dont really know my dad's horse just has a head set all the time.... so ya....
