| For 4h me and my friend want to do barrel racing and poll bending. How do we go about trying to train our horses? P.S. Our horses are not at our houses so we cannot work them on it every day!

introduce the horse to the pattern at the walk, and show what you expect of them at the turns (slow down/lead change) then slowly progress at the trot. keep at the walk and trot for a while until you feel that you and your horse are fomfortable to move on.
hope this helps :)

I also found that leading them on foot while doing the patterns helps. Prancer thinks its a game.

First do a lot of bending excercises and circles with your horse to help make it flexible, it really helps. Really make sure you and your horse learn the patterns. Take everything really slow, try not to get impatient or frustrated if it takes a while. Learn to do the pattern perfectly at a walk and a trot, before you even think about cantering it. Really work on making sure your bending your horse correctly around the barrels, leaving a big enough pocket, and your lining your horse up correctly. Try not to over do it though because if you do your horse might become sour, and once you finally start running the pattern be really careful not to do it too often because there is a good chance your horse could become too hot. Good luck, hope I helped (:

Yeah, like she said, do lots of bending exercises and such to get your horse flexible, that helps you out a lot.
