And thats is one of 3564 reasons I hate straight load trailers >.<

Here in redneck country, we mostly use stock* trailers xD. Stock or slant load. With straightloads though, most of them figure out how to get out on their own. I've never had to train one to do it nicely since I'd a thousand times rather borrow a cattle trailer* or something.

*for the idiots on here (yes, there are a few.....), CATTLE TRAILER and STOCK TRAILER do not = double decker trailer. So don't even go there. Its really quite sad that we have to point that out, time and time again.

Ya we use a trailer that the horses stand in diagnally this way we can spin them around to unload them. Try talking to him and make him wait. It could take a while but eventually he will learn to take his time.

We usually have one, too. (High-five for redneck country!) However, we don't have a truck to pull it with. I'm going to do a gymkhana with Sage, and my friend has to come pick him up, but she has a two horse trailer. Any ideas? Help?

How long have you subbed to YR? There was an article a few years back about it. I have the article, but not the copy of the mag, and I'm sure as heck not typing the entire thing out xD. But it was probably 2 years ago? Not a horribly good article mind you, but it'd probably give you some ideas.

Its in March/April '07, if you think you might have it. I rip out the useful articles and put them in a binder so I don't lose them xD. ...its not a very thick binder at the moment

I always talk to him. xD I can't try it right now because I am at my dad's and that's 300 miles away from Sage, but I guess I will...

i've only had loading in a trailer problems (brotherrr)

i'm just guessing, but would doing groundwork help any?
lol dundee's been loaded and loaded so many times he's at the point where if you say dundee he'll back out slowly then turn towards you so you can grab his halter/lead

HAHA once he was loaded in first, and this green horse was in second, and we were unloading, (my trainer has a gooseneck slant load i think), and the green horse wouldn't get out and we had to get dundee out so we had to let him out the safety escape door... yeah he had to jump over the little wall and off the drop. then he trotted to his pasture lol. he's so smart.

THANKS lisaaa for the banner

^^ya I did this thing with George where I would lead him through weird spots and over "scary" objects such as tarps. It showed him I would never lead him into something dangerouse and now he gets right on the trailer.

Groundwork isn't the problem, because I've dragged Sage so many darn places I can't even begin to explain. I think it may be new places. We don't go to any shows and when we went trail riding in the high country, we had a stock trailer.

Madi's horse Spaz will be there, too. She's the opposite of Sage and doesn't like to load. So Sage will help her load. If she backs out easily, do you think he will? I was talking with my neighbor Shelly who had the same problem with a TB she had a long time ago, and she said that when there was another horse around, he would do it right. Do you think that would work for Sage? (mind you, Sage and Spaz have never met before, but will a few days before)

sorry forgot to post my suggestion.

so you could try to walk him in part ways then back him out. keep doing this until you can get him in completely and then back him out without a spaz attack.
hope this helps !
good luck !
