| What kind of bit do you use for... Schooling? Showing? Other? :] I use a slow twist or a snaffle for schooling at home. My trainer and I are still deciding on what to use for shows. We're thinking kimberwick or one of the newer kimbers. You? :]
Hi, my name is Brooke, and I approve this message. Rest in Peace, Cal. I love you soo much and I'll never forget you! Thanks for...everything. <3

D-ring french link snaffle for everything.

French link loose ring snaffle for schooling. Kind of still deciding, but pretty sure on a (thinner) loose ring single joint snaffle for shows.

I ride several different horses, but they're usually in a D-ring snaffle (French link and regular), eggbut snaffle (French link and regular), or a loose ring snaffle (loose ring and regular). The pony, Twinkle, has a full cheek snaffle Idon'trememberifit'saFrenchlinkk or something like that. I don't think we have a lesson horse that goes in anything stronger than a snaffle.

RIP Alex, Apache, Cane, Fuzzy, Juniper, Mr. P, and Tazz. I love you all so much

I ride Riot in a full cheek copper snaffle. Theo goes in some kind of french link type thing who's name I've forgotten (not my bridle or my bit xD). I think I'ma get him a waterford though, he nearly does headstands.

We're experimenting right now. She was in a loose ring snaffle, and then a full cheek, but she basically runs right through both of them. We're trying her in a kimberwick (for the extra leverage) right now. We might try her in a twist eventually, but she's much happier in the kimberwick than the snaffle.

I know this isn't what this topic is really for, lol, but just a suggestion. If she tends to run through bits, maybre try using a Waterford bit? They're good for horses that lean against the bit, or brace against it, or grab ahold of it and just run. It's made up of little ball links, which is really hard for a horse to grab onto.

Well, I'm still really deciding. xP He uses a slow twist dee ring for flat and such, but we also switch between a jointed pelham for jumping/cold weather riding or just... when he's ADHD. I might go for a rubber pelham eventually.

Just moved down to a full cheeck corkscrew snaffle; I haven't ridden him in it yet. I'm looking to get a waterford, also, and alternate between them.

Yeah, a waterford is another option we're looking. One of the reasons we took her out of a jointed bit was she's not big on the 'nutcracker effect'. I might as well ask: would we still get that effect with a waterford?

I might as well ask: would we still get that effect with a waterford? Nope. There's no nutcracker effect with it, because it basically just collapses and lays across the tounge. It's more like a mullen mouth. You could also try a french link snaffle? The french link doesn't have the nutcracker effect either, because of the link in the middle. It's similar to a Waterford in that sense as well.
