My mom's friend who owns a Paint horse, asked me if I wanted to part lease his horse, Harley. Here is a discription:

Breed: Paint/Quarter horse

Gender: Gelding

Age: 8-10ish

Personality: Cute, lovable, likes to pin his ears for no reason, sometimes will break out of your hands to go chase the mares in the field, excellent uder saddle

Discipline: English Pleasure/Dressage/Trails

Restrictions for the Lease: no jumping, can do ground poles, WTC, trails

Now, I want to jump and I haven't talked to my instructor yet to see if she has a horse in mind or if she has a horse I can jump. What's your opinion though? Thanks so much!

Well if you want to lease a horse without the hassle of going through the process of training them for what you want to do from scratch, don't bother leasing the other horse.
Just wait and let your trainer find you a good horse to jump on.

If you want to jump, then don't lease a horse that can't jump..?

I recently started a horse who "couldn't" jump, I am 12, he is a paso fino, and six months later we are jumping 2' courses. I leased him and I'd been jumping for only about 8 months. So maybe get a little more jumping experience if you need it but you should try training this horse to jump.
And if you want proof that I trained a paso fino (Gizmo) to jump, my youtube account is: http://www.youtube.com/user/PonyRider4ever
I have all videos of him :)

Well, first I would talk, and look around more at the possible horses before you say anything. If you have your heart set on jumping, and do not want to train him to jump, then go for another horse. It's not worth the money spent if it isn't exactly what you want. Good luck!

I think that if you want to jump, pass on this horse. It is a lot of work to teach a horse to jump. A lot of people will take the first horse just because it's the first horse to come along. Not the best idea. I would wait to find a different horse, just my opinion.

If you really love this horse and you have the time, you should train him to jump. Else, find a different horse.
