| I have a hard time maintaining a lope. I kick at every corner of the arena, and hold on and squeeze the rest of the time, but he always breaks by the second or third time around. It's been getting really frustrating lately. Any advice? Update: Got a crop, and now he won't stop. He's going too fast. Luckily, I'm going on another horse. Thanks for your help. :)

Hold your leg on him, squeeze every other stride if he is that lazy. Drive him with your seat also. And if all else fails, get a crop.

keep your leg on him and make sure your not making him stop by your reins/seat

I would try to lope in smaller circles to give your horse the idea to keep going. And eventually make them bigger as he/she gets better! Also if he/she seems out of control fast I would get rid of the crop!

P.S. If you are squeezing even when he is loping then I would suggest that you squeeze only when he is not loping and you would like him too!

When ever it feels like he/she is slowing down either kick or squeeze. I also agree with lakotasgirl that if he/she feels like it's out of control fast, I would get rid of the crop. Hope it helps!

I sorta have the same problem. I have a four year old and when I lope her in the round pin she stops all of the sudden on her butt. I started riding her outside of the round pin and she stopped the stopping. Lol. Maybe you have the same problem? Try loping him/her in a diffrent area and see if that helps. Also I agree with the posts above, Lose the crop. It might annoy him/her and that probably wont help you situation. Hope this helps!

Omg I have the same problem! I ride a lazy boy and I don't use a crop so I scooch my hands up the reins so they have a tail. Then with one hand I whack his neck with the tail... he gets the point now and it doesn't hurt him
