You don't have to have a horsie! Just have one available to use when needed. We have unmounted and mounted meetings about once a month. In our Region we have Quiz (i've never done it), Eventing (YAY), Dressage, Show Jumping, and Tetrathlon rally. I haven't done Tet either but I've done the stuff that you do in it at PC camp (tet is running, swimming, riding, and shooting. The riding is a jumping course with little gates you have to open. Really fun actually). You also rate up to different levels

I actually like strict, it teaches good habits. My trainer isn't "strict". But she sure can yell.

Yeaaahhhh, see guys, this trainer spent an entire hour teaching me to mount "the pony club way" when I've been riding for six years. I was keeping a feel of the horse's mouth when I mounted, swinging up smoothly into the saddle, not banging the horse's sides or plopping down, but I wasn't doing it exactly right. :/ Needless to say, I left.

Proud to wear my helmet. Proud Californian. Proud horse-lover.

This comment reminds me of the saying, "the right way, the wrong way, and the pony club way."
Anyway, yes, it is very strict. Yes, it is not perfect. There are bad apples and excellent ones. But Pony Club, no matter how "senile" it might be, produces results.
I find that being around people who expect nothing other than perfection - those who are so incredibly nit-picky it is hard to believe - push you to be your best. If you aren't constantly aiming for perfection, you aren't going to get better.

Ahh, Pony Club.

I have to agree. My pony club is pretty relaxed, but I know that those who graduate from pony club as an "A," go on to the olympics sometimes. It's hardcore stuff.
EDIT:
I just remembered someone in an interview talking about how PC had completely prepared them for working in some insane high class barn. Also that it was run the same way as PC.

Only sometimes they don't. They just kill whatever desire to ride and enjoyment from riding you have inside you. It's a fine line. *sighs* Oh well. PC isn't for me, but tons of people enjoy it. ;)
