If she just started jumping. I'd kinda doubt it. You have to have a pretty secure seat and leg to jump that high bareback I'd assume.

You shouldn't even be jumping 3 feet with only a few months of english riding experience anyways....

Why would you jump a western horse with navicular in the first place?

If she's kind of braggy, then I bet she made the whole thing up.

Juuust for the record - even if a horse HAS navicular, it doesnt necessarily mean it effects them. I'm 99% sure that Hunter has navicular, and he jumps 3' on a regular basis and hasn't really been lame in the year Erica's owned him (except for losing shoes and stuff like that). So, having navicular doesn't necessarily have anything to do with if the horse can jump or not.

However, if the horse is western-trained and she's only been taking english lessons for a few months, I highly doubt she's jumping it 3' bareback, and if she is, certainly not well.

I'm still not jumping 3 ft, let alone bareback... she's probably just making it up. Ask if you can watch her ride some time and see what she does ;)

Yepyepyep. He vets with navicular. (We've been told. We didn't actually get him vetted before we bought him, lol. But why would they tell us he did if he didn't?) Although he could just have an odd shaped bone that looks like navicular on an xray. But he hasn't been lame at all since I've got him. Like Riley said there've been lost shoes and stuff, but yeah. And he jumps 3ft+ allllll the time, although we're slowing it down for the winter so we don't overjump him. :)

As for that girl, she's probably trying to sound impressive. If she's doing it, it certainly isn't pretty.

My thinking is, if the horse is sore enough that everyone knows it has navicular, it probably shouldn't be jumping xD. I don't think you guys go around the barn going "HUNTER HAS NAVICULAR" xD.

Well, no It's not exactly widely advertised. It could have come up in conversation though, like a lot of our show people probably know that he has Navicular just from hearing a passing comment or something. I'm not saying your wrong, I have no idea how they found out the horse has navicular, all I'm saying is that it's possible that it isn't that bad.

Agreed. If a horse is sore enough to be diagnosed as navicular, then it probably shouldn't be jumping anything over 2' once in a while.

Sorry I just had to put this in.
There is rarely actually navicular. The navicular disease's original definition was when the navicular bone is like shattered. Navicular is generally when the vet/farrier doesn't know what it is, but it is coming from that area so they just say navicular. If a horse truly has navicular(the horse's navicular bone is shattered) it would be immensly painful and the horse would have so much trouble walking and usually has to be put down. That is very rare to.
Now I think that girl is lying. First of all if her western horse just turned to english a few months ago he should not be jumping any higher than 1'8. Also if she just turned to english means she is just learning how to jump and I highly doubt that she would be able to jump 3' especially bareback. Now I have actually jumped 3' fences baraback before and it takes a ton of balance, leg muscle, know-how, and experience with jumping.
Sorry that turned out to be a novel.

I love you so much Mia. Thank you.

I doubt that she did and if she tried she either fell off or barely made it over.

I know some braggy people who claim to do all sorts of crazy things. Sometimes it is just because they don't understand the difference between walking and galloping or 18 inches and 3 feet but more often than not they are just bluffing it.

I jumped 3' for the first time this summer, after 4 years of weekly+ lessons and jumping. I've only jumped around 18" bareback but then again, my pony will buck me off if I slide to far back (bareback) so I din't really want to try 3'
