Just wondering.

The owner of my 18 year old fully and completely trained hunter mare decided that She wants to be ponied on her. Is there really anything benificial coming out of that?

I have 2 finished barrel horses so they don't need to be "worked" every day but they do need to be kept in tip top shape. I pony Niki off Blossom and Blossom off Niki all the time..... its like "killing 2 birds with one stone." Doing that I have more time to focus on Gunner and his training since he is green and needs more attention.

Always keep the horse that is being "ponied" to the inside so they never feel "squiched" (then they get scared and bolt ect. its a bad deal.)

also polo wraps or some kind of protection on the back legs of the horse that is being ridden and the front legs of the horse being ponied is a VERY good idea. It's a must have at my house. (along with bell boots)

Thanks!

I'm still confused with the owner's logic because there will still be a rider on the horse getting ponied... and she asked my friend to pony her on her horse. Weird-isms. Especially because it won't save anytime unlike in your case, and the horse getting ponied has more experience than the ponying horse.
