Bareback?

Hey, everyone!

I was wondering what tack you guys use for riding bareback. Like, do you use a bareback pad, or a halter, or what? I don't have a bareback pad, but i'm hoping to get one for my birthday, which is on the 13th. (Hint hint! ) I've heard it's bad to ride bareback in a bridle, too, so I usually just tie a leadrope onto my halter, and ride with it as a bridle.

i can gallop as fast as Cinnamon can go with my hands outstretched and not hanging onto the reins.

Well, I know there are lots of other Parelli-themed topics, but I'm doing a research paper for literature, and I'm doing it on Parelli. I, myself don't do it (because I, unfortunately, do not have my own horse.) But, I was wondering if I could get some quotes from some of the people who do do it. Just like, how it helped you and your horse and stuff. You don't have to give me your name, or anything, I just want some quotes to make my research paper more interesting. Thanks in advance!!! (also, I'm not garuanteeing that I'll use ALL of them, but I will use some of them)

Share your bare back misshapps I have quite a few the first time I tried to ride bareback on my gelding i got halway on his back (he was 16.2 hands and we don't have a mounting block) when he jumped to the side of course I fell of then like any good horseperson I got back on and then my gelding bucked me off! then more recently on my mare and she jumped ton the side but that time i staid on then about a week ago I got on my mare and she bucked again i staid on then later in that ride we walked down to the dry pond and the pond is down in a hole type thingy and my mare decided she didint lik walking on the squishy ground so she dashed up the three foot bank thankfully I was able to grab some mane other wise I would have fallen off but I still was hit in the top of the head with a small twig from a nearby tree.

When cantering bareback, do you want to lean forward or back? It is REALLY hard for me to be STRAIGHT. So should I have more of a hunter seat or lean back?

the first horse i rode was a sweet horse named Doc. he was the first timer for many people at my barn. he is a chesnut quarter horse mix. about 15hh and a great personality.he always will have a special place in my heart even when i get my own horse i will always love a sweet, gentle, beautiful quarter horse named Doc.

Have you ever done it before? I haven't but Im going to next year at the State 4H show. Were gonna dress Cami us as King Kong and Im gonna be the girl on the tower!

i'm not even sure if they exist. does anyone know if theres a show thats all bareback? like where you dont even bring a saddle and if you do you dont use it in the ring. i do pleasure showing so if you know of a who thats all bareback but does english and western pleasure please tell me! (and where they are caz i live in Wisconsin) thanks!

Why is it dangerous to ride bareback with a bareback pad with stirrups? I read it in some "________ for kids" riding book & I always see it in catalogs.

Native American Horsemanship?

I've just started it, but so far I like way better than any other type of training or natural horsemanship - even Parelli!

I don't know, it kind of seems, well, a lot more kinder and a better way of treating the animal.

That's just my opinion, though.

I haven't been doing any type of punishment with Rhythm, lately, and he seems so much more happier and will do just anything I ask of him!

He just seems to be an all-around, better horse.

Like, my trainer would tell me to punish the horse in a fair way and sure that would work. But I realized that at the same time it would also bring down his confidence and trust in me.

So here I am, with a horse who loves me and follows me anywhere I go, tries to do anything that I do, and thinks that just somehow I stand on top of the world.

And right now, I'm happier than I've been with him before. :]

But I'd like to especially thank GaWani Pony Boy, for helping me achieve all this from just one book, Out of the Saddle.

Heck, yesterday I went inside Rhythms stall when he was laying down and he rested his on my lap. I even fell asleep for about 15 minutes with him. It was the best moment of my whole entire life with that horse.

competitive mounted orienteering

I've been looking for new horsey things to do and i came across this competitive mounted orienteering and and found out that there are 3 different events going on in my area later this summer and fall. I think it sounds pretty cool even though i've never heard of it before. has anyone else heard of it or done it before? This is the little ad they had about it on the website:

Competitive Mounted Orienteering (CMO) is one of the most challenging and exciting equestrian sports - for the competitive as well as casual horse rider!

Riders compete either as a team or an individual. Competitors draw for a randomly assigned starting time, with riders leaving every five or ten minute intervals. Some people go for "time points", and others just walk all day. And we have STRICT rules about coming up on and passing trail riders, so no danger to anyone out there. Anyone who breaks these rules is disqualified.

Each competitor is given a map at the starting line with the area's roads and trails clearly marked. Scattered throughout the ride area are ten numbered circles marked on the map - these are the locations of the Objective Stations, the treasure in this mounted treasure hunt! An Objective Station is a 9" paper plate with two highlighted letters, the ride date and a station number written on it - hidden somewhere within the circle.

On the back of the map after each station number are compass bearings taken TO or FROM identifiable landmark clues. The circle on the map indicates the approximate area on the map where the objective station and the supporting clues are located. Correctly reading a map and taking accurate compass readings are important skills to master in this fast paced sport.

The object of the sport is to ride out and find as many of the Objective Stations as you can and get back in the least amount of time, on either a long ten station or short five station course."

Bareback questions

Okay, so when I VERY first started riding (about a year and a half ago) I rode bareback ALL the time and it is SO amazing. I had been wanting to do it again but I couldn't for about a year because my horse would freak and we need to work up to it. Well finally the day came where I could try him out bareback, TODAY!!! We just walked and it was SOOOOOOOOOOOO amazing! But he has a really bouncy trot. So.....here are my questions.

When riding, how exactly do you grip with your upper leg?
Could I please have some trotting bareback tips?
Is there any exersices I could do either bareback or in the saddle w/o stirrups that would improve balance and strengthen leg?
How can you tell if it hurts your horses back? I think my horses back is sorta sensative and I am thinking of buying a bareback pad. Thanks a bunch guys! I am SOOOOOO happy!

EDIT: Also, do you think that if I ride bareback, it will improve my balance in the saddle? And do you think that by not worrying about my position bareback, it will make me get bad habits when I ride in a saddle? Thanks
