Personally I think peacock stirrups are tacky looking. I would use them for walk-trot schooling, but not cantering, jumping, or showing.

What's everyone's opinions on Kwik-out and jointed stirrups?

please exsplain[/quote] If you're relying on the outside of the stirrups to keep your foot in, then you need to do some major work on your heel.
Unless you're jumping, and you don't have that steady of a base through your heel, then there is absolutely no need for the outside of the stirrup. The peacocks do come up about 2 or 3 centimeters (of metal) on the outside, or, enough to keep your foot from sliding out the edge.
But really, I'm hoping you don't depend on the side of the stirrup to ride. O.o

Alrighty then.

If your foot is correctly in the stirrup, it doesn't matter if the band is there or not. And if it really is such a terrible problem that the band isn't there, turn the stirrup around so the metal is on the outside. But really, it shouldn't make that much of a difference.

I think that was just a freak thing with you, and only you. xD
they're fine, I like other stirrups better, but I can honestly say they did save me once.

Umm... care to explain your logic? I use spurs and own peacock irons and I've never had a problem...

Well, let's just say that I fell off and my spur got caught on the rubber band thing. Which then led to me being dragged around the arena...not too fun. xD

I have regular and peacock. Peacocks are infe for me. Never gave me a problem.

They're alright, but I tend to prefer normal stirrups.
Break-away stirrups can break off un-intentionally, but usually only if they're really worn down, so they're pretty decent safety wise.

I'm actually a fan of Jointed Stirrups. My trainer has some that are silver but have leather where the joints are, and it looks really nice. And she has the "cheesegrater" pads which are AMAZING.

I personally extremely dislike them. Not because of performance, but because they look very tacky.
I have them, and I hate the look. :\
But, if you're a beginner, I'd suggest them. Years and years ago I fell off a schoolie, and the entire thing popped off. xD

I always thought peacock stirrups were good for riders just starting out, up until about 2 years or so. I mean there a good safety thing to have, and are mainly used for beginners. But in my experience they tend to pop off right when your in the middle of a show, and then when your falling they don't pop off!!!! Haha!! But thats just what happened to me! I can't ride without my jointed irons and cheese grater stirrup fillers. But again thats just me.

I have no problem with them, and the bands won't pop off unless there's pressure on them. So if your foot is in the stirrup correctly, they shouldn't pop. Even if they do, it shouldn't matter - my friend rode a whole clinic without an outside band because she turned her foot out and popped it off in the first five minutes and was too embaressed to ask the clinician to get it for her. I personally like the look of regular stirrups better, but in terms of performance I've never had a problem with them.

They're ok, they're safe and all that but sometimes the elastic thing snaps off and you can't find it. I don't really like the look off them, if your dragged the stirrup bar will let you go so you don't always need them.

^^If the stirrup bar is down then the stirrup leather will slip through when you're dragged.

Most of the stirrups at my barn are peacock stirrups, but we do have some regulars.

My opinion on them, is that they're okay, sometimes the bands pop off by themselves, when you are riding normally, which can get annoying. I prefer the regulars for jumping, as the bands are one less thing to worry about.

Peacock stirrups??? I use them in show and schooling, although most people say they look kinda blah in the show ring. You can sometimes get dragged by these stirrups too although its never happned to moi. They're not all that fancy but I like'em. Hope I helped!!!!!! :D
