my club's pretty small now

we used to have a TON of people. actually we used to be this HUGE club merged with another club then we split
and a lot of people quit PC, like a lot of older members especially. well in my club
so the only older members in my club are me and my best friend.

sigh. but i love PC cause my club has the best trainer <3

ugh, we cant do cross country at our eventing rally this year because rally is at the horse park, and the WEG people are going to be using the xc course =/
so im going to do jumpers rally, since the event one would only be a combined test, and i dont really like dressage....

i have ridden in the jumping rally, been manager for a jumping rally team, and done Quiz two or three times. I love the idea of PC, but ours is kinda retarded...there is a ton of drama with the adults, the ones that are supposed to be mature xD It's really bad lol, but it's usually fun anyway :)

I'd love to try the eventing rally!

I'm not a fan of Quiz. Last year we had to stay in a crappy motel with 3 girls in a lopsided queen size bed. Not fun.
I think I'm skipping out this year. I had fun the first year though.
Who knows, I might go, then ask for all C1 questions in classroom, and actually get better then last for once. ://

I've been in pony club just about forever. I'm a C-3 with a Dressage Specialty. I've been to every rally and 7 Championships (Quiz, Dressage, and Eventing). I'm a regular instructor for several local clubs. If anyone has questions about pony club, just feel free to PM me and ask...I probably either know or can find out the answer. =]]

you have one day rallies?

our dressage rally is 3 days and you ride 3 tests, like in SJ you ride 3 courses and one more if you make jump-off, and eventing obviously dressage, stadium, and xc. i've only been to 3-day rallies, i LOVE them it's so much fun staying with all your friends in a hotel and hanging out after you're done for the day

im in PC, but my group hardly ever does anything, and they have a lot of meetings during the week, and they're so far away, i cant go =/
i want to join one thats closer, but for now ill stick with the one im in.

Thats kinda like mine, its 2 hours away but we do stuff on the weekends too, at least 3 weekends a month if not 4, and stuff during the week

You bring up a very valid point...I experienced the same prejudice so to speak before I joined pony club, when I was doing hunters. I think the big problem is that pc is based off eventing (originally foxhunting), not hunters, equitation, and jumpers. Of course now you have the show jumping specialty ratings, which should close the gap a little, but there is still a lack of desire for kids to go through the system. Kids- mostly those who hope to event at the highest levels - go through pony club to prove their skills and bulk up their resumes with an "HA" or "A" certificate. These are internationally recognized and will get you a lot more rides than saying "I evented through X level" because that does not necessarily speak of your talent, skill, and horsemanship. These types of kids normally have one or two or borrow horses for their ratings, and these aren't the type of horses that will win the dressage.
However, there are kids who can afford more competitive horses, or even a string, compete every weekend, win lots of points, and already make a name for themselves with that type of success. These kids tend to go on the NAJYRC track - why would they waste their time with preps and stressful ratings when they can go win team and individual medals?
I feel like you see the latter type more at USEF shows - not to over-generalize, but I did do pony jumpers back in the day, and I usually saw kids will several fancy horses doing big classes and had lots of "backing." Kids and trainers just don't want to waste their time with pony club.
Pony Club is still seen as an eventer's thing ... and you only compete one horse at a time. No grooms, little coaching, and judged on more than just your riding. It's a lot different from a horse show.

Well you have to rate up to D1 first, because when you join you're unrated. If I remember correctly, you can rate up 3 levels in one rating? like D1, D2, D3. I wouldn't recommend it because it's a lot to learn, with the bandaging and health and all. I've done 2 in one rating but it was D1 and D2 so not too bad.. But I'd recommend doing D3 on its own, and C1 and so on. C1 is a big step from D3.

Right. I think between D3 and C1 you have to wait for 6 months. ... At least according to my DC.
Also, the C1 is a huge step from D3 in terms of knowledge. (Haven't taken, lmao) But I've been in PC for 4 years and I don't have my C1. I actually don't have my D3 either... but that's just lazyness. XD

Its 3 months by national rules but some clubs may make their own rules for things liek this.

Hey guys. Since this was such a big topic, I thought I'd post my question here instead of making a new thread...

I'm probably going to be joining PC in early 2010, since I'll be leasing a horse that is right next door to a PC riding center/where they have their meetings. But, I've read the books, and I think I'm more like a D1, C3. Is it possible for me to test for my D1 right away, instead of having to go through D3 and D2?

I'm in Pony Club. I am currently a C1 and will be rating C2 in the spring and then (hopefully :D) my HB in July. I have been to champs in quiz (x3) and show jumping. Its great fun!

What is an HB?

It's just the knowledge part of a B. Not the riding. If i remember correctly.

Only sometimes they don't. They just kill whatever desire to rideand enjoyment from riding you have inside you. It's a fine line. *sighs* Oh well. PC isn't for me, but tons of people enjoy it. ;)[/quote]
