hey okay let me explain...

I'm riding a young horse. He likes to put his head up very high! haha i know some ways to collect your horse and stop a giraffe is to use draw reins... But, I was wondering if any of you guys had any ideas.

UPDATE: oh yeah and anything to help with slowing down. He likes to stick head up and run. So anything to quiet a horse down

Another Update: Another problem is i do use a martingale and when i was recently at a show in the flat he put his head straight up b/c he didnt have it on. So i dont want to use that anymore for hacking and i dont want to use draw reins yet. How can i develop the muscle. I want him to be like my other horse who was intensly trained and made when i got him so you just squeeze and wiggle on the reins and they out there head down. Give me some ways to train him but nothing to major like sending to a clinic :D thanks keep the ideas coming!!

lots of flexing... lateral flexibility is needed first

Use your seat. Seat deep in the saddle and half halt. Also, slowing your posting or cantering position will slow him down. And draw reins do nothing to help with a horse's head set but force them into a position they don't have the muscles to hold. It take years of getting your horse to move forward through its back and lighten its forehand and to accept the bit.

And like the person above me said, use half halts to flex the horse's neck to loosen up the mucles. Being flexible helps a horse lighten its forehand.

Half  Halts, Whatever you do DON'T use a martingale. That just made my horse worse. When he out his head up make him do a tight circle toward the inside, then he will eventually stop. I just use the inside rein and kind of pull it and he stops.  Hope this helps.

My is an almost pro.(not bragging) She told me to squeeze the reins and bring them foward and back until he lowers his head. It works most of the time.
