| I mostly ride english, but when I go on the trails I ride western just because the saddle is more comfy. Anyways, today I went on a trail ride and I was wondering if you have any tips on trail riding... and what footing is good for what gaits. I only trotted when it was sandy and flat, the rest I walked. =) Thanks! Cookies to all who post!

| Dirt-as long as it isn't soaked with rain-is good to do a little walk and trot on. And sand is nice, especially on a beach ride when you can gallop a lot more. But make sure you watch the ground as you ride to, because a lot of trails have holes that can come up very quickly and hurt your horses' legs. Have fun!

| | in deep sand, walk, or you could strain your horse's legs, but just as a general rule, the rougher the terrian, the slower you go. or if you're in a new field, keep it slow, because a hole could just pop up out of the middle of nowhere. if you know the trail, then there's no worry. me and cinnamon go up and down crazily steep mountians...its quite fun, actually. if its muddy, let your horse set the pace, i know from experience >.< have fun!
Holding you I held everything For a moment wasn't I a king But if I'd only known how the king would fall Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all And now I'm glad I didn't know The way it all would end the way it all would go Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd have had to miss the dance… |
